Gua Sha (Scraping)
Bodywork & Scraping
Active Modality
Overview
Scraping lubricated skin areas to release deep fascial adhesions, stimulate blood circulation, and resolve chronic muscle stiffness.
Clinical Description & Benefits
Gua Sha is a traditional therapeutic scraping technique that uses a smooth-edged tool (made of jade, horn, or rose quartz) over lubricated skin. By applying gentle, repetitive strokes, it releases myofascial adhesions, breaks up micro-calcifications in muscles, stimulates local microcirculation, and helps the body filter out metabolic waste. It leaves red or purple markings (called 'Sha') which fade in a few days and indicate improved blood flow and healing.
